Proraso is a decent, solid cream - comparison with Taylor Bond St. February 11, 2010 D. Garsys (Charleston, SC United States) I'm fairly new a the whole DE shaving thing, so when I got started I decided to not ony try several brands of blades, but sample several creams as well.
At this point I've tried two: The Proraso (in the squeeze tube) and the Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream (in a jar).
Both are much nicer than anything at the drug store. Both have their pros and cons.
The Proraso gives a nice, tingling sensation, and a fresh smell, but is runnier. That said, getting the proportions right for a lather are dead simple - an almond-sized dab in my shaving mug, wet the brush, and lather.
I marginally prefer the Taylor of Old, etc. for it's full, thick foam and the good lubrication, but it is a bit drier. It's also a bit harder to judge how much water to add for lathering as I prefer to pick up some cream on my brush and use that in my shaving mug with some water added.
As far as scents - the proraso wins out on this round. While I LIKE the sandalwood scent with its overtones of incense, etc., it is much stronger, and I can see where people would dislike it. I look forward to trying the eton college and other scents in the Taylor line.
Great stuff February 7, 2010 D. Jackson (Seattle, WA) I use this in conjunction with shaving oil and the tweezerman's brush and it works great. I like the consistency and the menthol feel - have used it with Quattro titanium razors and a Mercur safety razor. 5oz is a huge tube and you only need a little to work it into a lather. Will buy again.
I liked it! October 2, 2009 jersey_boy (Edison, NJ) Overall an excellent cream at the price. Everyone will love the cooling effect it gives after the shave.
Although the cooling sensation is great, September 20, 2009 K. Comvalius (NYC, USA) Proraso just lathers up too thin and runny. Im having a hard time figuring out how wet my brush should be and how much cream to use. This morning I just said screw it and resorted to what was left of an old jar of Art of Shaving that I had laying around. They want you to use a thick opaque lather and leave it on for at least two minutes...right after the shower with shave oil on, I once again am having the hardest time having this stay on.
The cooling soothed feel you get with a splash or two of cold water is nice, but just wish the stuff lathered up a lil better.
I know this is for men, but I love using it for my legs! August 30, 2009 Tax Writer (Maui) I bought this for my husband and I grabbed it in a pinch when I was out of shave cream. I love it! I love the clean smell of menthol (I use Noxzema daily as my cleanser, which also has a refreshing menthol smell) and this was great. Good tingly sensation and a nice cooling feeling on my legs during and after the shave. I felt that it was too much for sensitive areas like the bikini line, but on the legs and underarms it works great.
With a double-razor I'm getting a very smooth shave and it seems to moisturize, too.
Conclusion: If you like menthol, this is highly recommended!
