Q&A:
Why should I switch from my can of shave cream foam to Hydroplane Shave Cream?
Traditional foam shave creams are comprised mainly of air and tiny bubbles. These tiny bubbles provide the cushion between your face and a razor. Unfortunately, they don't provide much cushion or lubrication which often results in razor drag, nicks and ingrown hairs. Hydroplane Shave Cream, on the other hand, is comprised of millions of beads of water-soluble, micro-silicone. This ingredient provides much more lubrication which results in greater razor glide. The water-soluble part means that the product does not break down when it comes into contact with water. Instead, it becomes slicker and slicker, ensuring a close but comfortable shave.

How much product should I use?
Apply a quarter-sized amount to wet face.

Does it have a fragrance?
There is no added fragrance in Hydroplane Shave Cream. It does have a natural fragrance due to the orange, grapefruit, lime and bergamot oils in the product.

Hydroplane Shave Cream is pricier than some of the other shave creams I've seen. Is it still a good value?
Yes, it is an excellent value because you need very little product in order to experience a great shave. An 8oz bottle can last for several months.

Does it contain any alcohol?
There is no alcohol in Hydroplane.

Does it contain Menthol?
No Menthol was left out of this product. While Menthol triggers a nice cooling effect, we believe it over stimulates skin during the shaving process, when the skin is most vulnerable.

I've seen Benzocaine in some competitive products. Does your shave cream contain this ingredient?
No we left out Benzocaine as well. Benzocaine is a numbing agent. We feel that our shave cream is such a superior product that we don't need to include a numbing agent in it. Shaving with a product that includes Benzocaine may also result in applying too much razor pressure while you shave which may be harmful to your skin.

5 STEPS TO A GREAT SHAVE

Shave After a Shower:
The warm water softens hair for a closer, more comfortable shave.

Wash Face:
Use either a mild facial cleanser like Billy Jealousy's White Knight Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser or a couple of times a week use a scrub like Billy Jealousy's Sucker Punch Face Scrub. The scrub will lift hairs to prevent ingrown hairs from occurring. It will also exfoliate to remove dead surface skin cells that can cause razor bumps and acne.

Use a Fresh, Clean Blade:
A triple-or-more blade is great. Most of these razors last for 5 or more good shaves.

Apply Hydroplane Shave Cream:
Smooth the shave cream all over your wet beard. Shave in the direction of the hair growth. For tougher hair, re-apply shave cream and shave sideways or softly against the grain. Afterwards, rinse face with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel.

Apply After-Shave Balm:
Your skin needs to quickly cool and restore moisture content. Billy Jealousy's Shaved Ice After-Shave Balm contains Aloe Vera to moisturize and Allantoin to heal and block pain.

1 out of 5 stars Expensive Goop   August 15, 2010
K. Johnson (Brooklyn)
Save your money and buy King of Shaves Gel. This stuff is impossible to get off the razor, it's nowhere near as effective as KOS, and it's too expensive. Maybe - just maybe - if you have very soft wiskers, and leather for skin - this stuff might work for you. Otherwise - it's a bust. I used it once and threw it out.

5 out of 5 stars Great shave, great price.   May 19, 2010
KLUKAS (CT, USA)
I had been using the Jack Black Beard Lube for awhile, and had noticed a huge improvement in my shave over the traditional foams. The price point was a little high, however, and this shave cream had adequate feedback so I gave it a try. I am very pleased with the performance of this product, especially at half the price of the Jack black product. Does not dry your skin out, blade slides effortlessly over even a few days worth of growth, and it has a nice, subtle and clean citrus smell. Very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Great product by itself...incredible with a shaving brush!!   April 20, 2010

I initially bought this shaving cream during my seemingly endless search for "The Best." I don't honestly know if such a thing exists, and anyway, from what I've read, it's all about what works best for the individual. Whatever that means. So, along with four or five other shaving creams, soaps and various other highly recommended shaving solutions, I bought the Hydroplane Shave Cream just as a standby for those all-to-frequent mornings when I found myself without the time to use my shaving brush and really enjoy the ritual.

I have used it a number of times, in a rush, slathering it over my face and going across the grain hoping for, at the very least, a shave that would last until 2:00, or so. This stuff, even applied with my fingers, provided a noticeable lubrication absent from just about everything else I have ever used. That being said, it still did not, and does not, compare to the Truefitt & Hill, Talor of Old Bond Street, or (in my opinion) the great Proraso shaving creams; used with a quality shaving brush, immediately following a hot shower and a good scrubbing cleanser (Jack Black's Face Buff is highly recommended).

So, today, I was given a two-hour lunch break. I live about 5 minutes from the office, thought, "what the Hell?" and decided to take a second shower and get a really good shave, which I had missed before work. I hate missing out on the shaving brush, coupled with my better shaving creams and the time to get extra close; it leaves something to be desired and I don't feel "clean" like I do when I am able to devote the time for what has become a real joy for me. Anyway, something made me pick up the Billy Jealousy, squirt some into my shaving bowl and work it around with my brush. While applying it, I was very impressed with how it felt, how it seemed to get down close to the skin and under my beard and, after really taking the time to get a good lather (yes, it will lather up if you use a brush), I was even more impressed with the quality of the shave. I normally shave in three directions: with the grain, against the grain, then across the grain, respectively, stopping to lather up each time and rinsing my razor often. The Hydroplane cream was a surprisingly great shave and I went back to work much more relaxed, feeling cleaner (if that makes any sense).

I recommend the Hydroplane Shave Cream for both, the hurry-up and go shave, as well as the slower-is-faster shave. This stuff works well either way. Get it, if for no other reason than to have it as an option, regardless of the price tag. Enjoy...

2 out of 5 stars Basically a gimmick. No better than products costing a third of the price   April 17, 2010
E. Carbone (United States)
I was given a container of this product as a gift. I am glad that I didn't pay for it because I would have felt like a sucker. As far as the performance of the product, it's okay, but I did not find it to be as good as other high-end shaving gels I've used. I have found King of Shaves Alpha Gel to be the best of these non-lathering shave products; it's available in many drug stores, Target, etc., for $5-$7. Billy Jealousy costs three times that amount and in my opinion wasn't as good. I guess they're marketing the funky name...but I don't know why someone would pay $20 for this stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Best Shave Ever!   April 1, 2010
Burrough Hill Lad (Milwaukee, Wisconsin United States)
Just used this for the first time and I'm amazed at how much better it is than other products.
