| Customer Reviews: If you want HEALTHY hair this book helps! April 19, 2001 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I believe the previous commentator was unhappy to find that this book is not a collection of hairstyles and how to do them. This book will not show you how to style your hair in different ways. This book will not help you create that up-do for a special occassion. Instead, this book is filled with tips for making your hair healthy and manageable every day of the year! It shows some basic styles and gives tips for getting hair to behave. This book tells you how to protect your hair, gives details on special rinses and products, reviews hair styling and management products for various types of hair, tells you how to care for your hair on a daily basis, and gives many great tips for keeping hair from becoming damaged or a hassle. You will find everything from tips on selecting a hair style to tips on selecting appropriate hair products. It's a great, handy, easy to read guide for taking care of your hair.
"Great Hair!", more like "True Lies" February 6, 1998 Julia Starkey (Medford, MA USA) 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought this book because I thought it would have hair style tips for African-Americans. When I looked up Lonnice Bonner (the author of such excellent books as "Plaited Glory" and "Good Hair") I noticed that people who bought those books also bought "Great Hair." So, I thought I'd be getting a book like those. I was so, so wrong. "Great Hair" is terrible. It's hints and how-tos are sometimes difficult to understand, and the end results they create are terrible mall hair. There is no special section on African-American hair. There is only one mention I noticed of African-Americans. At the end, they mention that wigs and falls can be a good way to change your hair style, and there is a picture of several woman wearing wigs. You can get better hair tips in any magazine, and it would cost less than this terrible book.
