Product Description
Originally published in the 1950s, this rare hairstyling book contains detailed instructions and illustrations for creating those fabulous retro looks. 1950s hairstyles combined a shorter haircut with specific curl patterns to achieve different looks -- with the comb out being imperative for creating smooth flowing locks. This book shows you how to do it all. The contents of the book include finger waving, making sculptured curls using your fingers, curl waving, combing out curl waves, skip waving, forming your curls in the direction you desire (vertical, horizontal, radial, backward, forward, sideways), how to fan and spin hair during a combout to achieve smooth results, classic upsweeps, classic themes for hair design. For those with shorter hair, there are over 30 hairstyles with curl patterns throughout the book, including details on combing out the curls to achieve the crisp, clean 1950s look. If you're interested in more technical aspects of 1950s hairdressing, you'll find it here -- cutting a tailored neckline, low radial haircutting, cutting the top of hair, high radial haircutting, massing and planning the design, and moudling and modelling are all illustrated in step-by-step drawings by the author in hundreds of drawings throughout the book. Louis Newberry, the book's author, was the owner, founder and chief styling instructor of the Newberry School of Beauty located in Hollywood and authored many articles for trade magazines. He provided his teaching services through thousands of lectures, shows and exhibitions throughout his career -- so you know you'll be learning from a professional stylist who lived and styled during the fab 1950s. Please see images at the top of this page for the book's contents page and sampling of instructions and styles.
